The Montessori Gobbi Baby Mobile DIY Kit contains everything you need to assemble a Montessori-inspired visual mobile for babies from approximately 6–8 weeks. Complete with printable instructions and video guidance, it supports colour perception and early visual development through a gentle gradient of coloured spheres.
Around this stage, your baby’s vision begins to move beyond strong contrast and starts to notice subtle differences within a single colour.
With a series of spheres in gradual shades of one colour, the Gobbi mobile offers a refined visual experience that encourages calm, focused observation while helping babies distinguish small variations in colour.
Why this mobile at this stage
As vision develops, babies begin to:
- notice differences within the same colour
- refine visual discrimination
- follow gentle movement with more consistency
The Gobbi supports this through:
- a sequence of gradually changing tones
- identical forms to isolate colour variation
- soft, balanced movement
This creates a calm visual experience where attention can settle and refine.
Where it fits in the Montessori sequence
The Gobbi mobile follows the Octahedron and comes before the Dancers.
If you’d like to understand how each mobile supports a different stage of visual development, you can read the Montessori visual mobiles guide.
As your baby’s perception continues to develop, the next step introduces movement in space — you can continue with the Dancers mobile.
A DIY process that stays simple
All materials are prepared so you can focus on creating the colour gradient and assembling the mobile without needing to plan the structure yourself.
The process is quiet and intentional, resulting in a balanced mobile that reflects this stage of visual development.
If you prefer a different material approach, you can also explore a crochet version of the Gobbi mobile in blue or a crochet Gobbi in beige, where the focus remains on colour variation while the texture introduces a softer visual presence.
